Terms of Service

Welcome to Flash Protest. By accessing or using our services, you agree to the terms below. If you do not agree, you may not use Flash Protest.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Flash Protest ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you disagree with any part, discontinue use immediately.

2. Description of Service

  • One-tap live streaming integration with Twitch (YouTube/Facebook for approved admins).
  • End-to-end encrypted chat tied to live events.
  • Location-based discovery of nearby civic events.
  • Democratic community moderation with reputation and voting.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use Flash Protest.

4. Acceptable Use

You may use Flash Protest for:

  • Organizing or participating in lawful protests and civic events.
  • Documenting public events that can be reasonably considered protests.
  • Community organizing around social, political, and economic issues.
  • Emergency coordination and mutual aid.

You may not use Flash Protest for:

  • Inciting violence or coordinating illegal activity.
  • Harassment, doxxing, stalking, or deanonymization attempts.
  • Spamming, commercial advertising, or distributing malware.
  • Impersonation or creating fake emergencies.
  • Streaming events that are not reasonably considered protests.

5. User Conduct in Chat Rooms

  • Respect other users; no harassment or targeted abuse.
  • Stay on topic to keep conversations tied to the event.
  • Honor democratic moderation outcomes.
  • Do not attempt to deanonymize others.
  • Do not spam; rate limits exist to protect the community.

Violations may result in reputation penalties, restrictions, or bans.

6. Streaming Terms

  1. You must comply with Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, and other platform policies.
  2. Twitch is the default streaming platform; YouTube and Facebook integrations are limited to vetted admins.
  3. Flash Protest may disconnect or suppress streams or chats that violate these Terms.
  4. You retain ownership of your stream content.
  5. You grant Flash Protest permission to link your stream with our chat functionality.
  6. You are responsible for your OAuth tokens and stream keys.
  7. Non-Twitch streaming is limited to protect privacy and respect platform quotas by restricting access to trusted admins.

7. End-to-End Encryption

  • Chat messages are end-to-end encrypted.
  • Flash Protest cannot recover lost encryption keys.
  • You are responsible for your device security.
  • We cannot retrieve or decrypt your messages.

8. Privacy

Your privacy is governed by our Privacy Policy. We collect minimal data, encrypt chat content, and cannot read your messages.

9. Intellectual Property

Our Code

Flash Protest is open source (Apache 2.0). You may use, modify, and distribute the code.

Your Content

You retain ownership of content you create. You grant us a limited license to transmit it as needed.

10. Disclaimers

Service Provided "As Is"

No warranties of any kind, including merchantability, fitness, or availability.

No Legal Advice

Flash Protest is a tool, not legal counsel. Know your rights and local laws; encryption alone does not guarantee safety.

Third-Party Services

We integrate with Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, and push notification providers. We are not responsible for their terms or availability.

11. Limitation of Liability

  1. No liability for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.
  2. Total liability is capped at $0 (this is a free service).
  3. We are not liable for government action taken against you.
  4. We are not liable for actions of other users.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify Flash Protest, its contributors, and maintainers from claims arising out of your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or rights of third parties.

13. Modifications to Service

  • We may modify or discontinue the Service at any time.
  • We may update these Terms with notice via the app or website.
  • Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

14. Termination

By You

Stop using Flash Protest and uninstall the app.

By Us

We may suspend or terminate access for Terms violations, illegal activity, legal requirements, or at our discretion.

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by United States law, without regard to conflict of law principles.

16. Dispute Resolution

  1. Good faith negotiation.
  2. Mediation.
  3. Binding arbitration in the United States.

Class action waiver: disputes must be resolved individually unless prohibited by law.

17. Severability

If any provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.

18. Entire Agreement

These Terms along with our Privacy Policy form the entire agreement.
